Change of plans! I've been let go ahead of schedule and paid out for the remainder of the two weeks. Time to look for replacement health insurance and start enjoying myself. Whee :-D

you will be offered a COBRA continuation of benefits.

I won't. While the parent/old company may have enough to be eligible for COBRA, the current/my company has less than 75 employees so they don't have it. I was just informed of this at the exit procedure when I noticed the "continuing insurance" policies checklist items were marked "N/A".

I'm doing shopping on my own now. :-)

oh my.
open market medical insurance is basically impossible to get if you have any serious pre-existing conditions or history.
but if not, Regeance and LifeWise both sell HSA-compatible insurance, which boils down to catastrophic coverage. So for less than $100/mo you can be covered against major injury (~$3,000+).
Good luck

That sounds reasonable to me. I don't have any pre-existing conditions or history of major medical usage, so mostly I am just getting it as a 'in case of something catastrophic' insurance.

this can provide continuity if you do transition into contracting for a while. that's what i do.
