Dragon*Con 2010: Chaos
My patience level with this con just went through the floor. I started using my empty water bottle as a stress ball.

* Too many people are stopping in the middle of the floor to take a picture. This creates a two yard empty space in front of them, and one yard behind them. Traffic flow interruption.
** Get all participants to do a few poses and put the images online for participants to download. For free. Just get a unique id from the person, download later.
* The path between each hotel runs right through meeting entrances, party areas, and other gathering spots.
** They need to set up express lanes to get through the entire hotel.
* There are no signs to help you find your way around if you're not standing right in front of it.
** Put a "you are here" map in places with basic routes between all hotels and rooms.
* The line to get into popular panels wrap around the entire hotel. In the heat. In the sun. For an hour before each panel (there is only 30 minutes between sessions, so you're going to miss stuff).
** Just give out tickets per badge then let people mingle. Recall people to sit in groups based on number.
*** I'm sure there are even better ways to do it.

For now I'm going to stick to the less popular sessions I highlighted that won't have me running across two hotels.

The "Adam Savage" panel was all the way around the Hyatt hotel. I don't think the room was big enough to hold that many people. Never mind that. Instead I'm going to a second Arduino session instead.

You would kill people at ComicCon... oh yes... you would. It's way worse than that.

Yes, yes, I probably would.

I liked AnimeBoston. I liked Penguicon. I liked Google I/O (5,000 people). I like many of the sessions I've been to so far here. But not the management, etc.

Heh, yes, there are ludicrously simple ways to make this convention less of a pain in the ass.

Would they care to implement them? Only time, and perhaps death threats, will tell.

Mmm, death threats. Can I threaten to never go again too? :-P
