This is driving me crazy
I can feel it just within my grasp, I just need to reach for it.

To create an artifical intelligence, it must be able to communicate with something other than itself. The thing most likely that it will talk to is a human, so it needs to know the language of humans.

How do you learn English without having any prior knowledge?
Humans obviously have certain base facts set to certain values before. What are these?
How are these base facts related to the later English language?
How would I convert these facts into computer terms and then teach it English?

Can someone point me in the right direction to learning about these things?

Try searching for information on patterning. Children learn English without having any prior knowledge of the language - see what you can find out on that.

Well

Since you turned off Anony posting and all...

There's a lot of good language studies when you get into modern Psychology. A lot of differing opinions too. But a good place for things like Intelligence and Language.

well.... my computer spouts english off (the narrator in the accesability menu) but still, i agree with ye... that doesnt mean it can know it. for an artificial inteligence to know it, it has to have something a computer cannot as of yet: the ability to think for itself, and having been "born". what i mean is it needs to have the basic human features that all sentient things have: inteligence, not all sorts of knowledge, but intelligence, the ability to want to learn, to be curious. and a "soul" if you wish it to be actual AI, it needs to be able to think and feel, to live and love, to learn and teach, to grow and expand, as well as to hate. if any of that was left off, then it wouldnt be true. (sorry for that, bleh.. i feel wierd in the head today ^^)
