My sister's cell phone alarm - blagh

I turned my sister's cell phone off this morning. She keeps setting the alarm for bright and early in the morning, yet seven times out of ten she's in the shower or downstairs when it goes off. When her room door is open (which is almost all the time, except when she turns the hallway light off but that's another story) it wakes me up, while she has no clue it's going off. So thus this morning when it went off and woke me up when I didn't have to get up, I went into her room, opened up the phone, and held down the 'End' key until it started a nice little 'shutdown' jingle. Much better.

If she gets worried about missing phone calls then she can start worrying about waking me up in the morning too. Nine time out of ten I take my cell phone with me wherever I go, and when I don't I'm usually not away for more than a couple of minutes (bathroom) or within hearing distance (kitchen).

One odd little dream (Disclaimer at bottom of entry)

Oh, that reminds me. I had an odd little dream last night / this morning. It involved vbseth and one of his friends (although I have no idea who; I just knew it was a friend). Oh, and someone else that was close to the friend and then there was spectral me floating around observing the entire thing.

I only vaguely remember certain parts, but it really was quite odd. You see, vbseth's friend had apparently claimed him as a 'servant' or some such thing. Well, along with that position came a lack of a shirt, but that's not the odd part. The odd part is that vbseth claimed to want pants from the friend / owner guy, yet he already had them. Yet the owner guy's friend said that "we [something-or-another]s don't get pants".

Yeah, by this point I'm confused and amused. Next thing I know vbseth is seductively teasing the owner-or-something guy for pants. The rest of the scene kind of fads away to be replaced by just them rubbing up against a tree. Well, err, vbseth was rubbing against the tree and the whatever-guy was rubbing against him. And of course vbseth didn't have any pants on.

I admit, I'm just a little confused and not sure I want to touch this one. But there you have it. I'm still amused, though, because throughout the entire thing I got a sense of "just having fun playing around" and nothing was really serious.

DISCLAIMER: All of the above events are a work of fiction of my mind. Any correlation between real events is purely coincidental.

Car update

My car is in the shop. It was going to go in anyway to get the wheels aligned and a couple of gaskets replaced to stop some oil leaks. After a trip Sunday morning, as I pulled into the drive way, I noticed the engine temperature gauge was only a few degrees (by a circle) from the red zone and the liquid in the engine coolant container was boiling furiously and out of a couple of cracks. It was definitely going into the shop now.

My brother followed me over to the mechanic on Sunday night and I left the car there along with a spare key that had my name, number, and car information on it. I called them Monday morning about 10:30 and they said they wouldn't be able to get around to it until 1 and would call me back with an estimate. I called them back around 3 or 4 and he said he was still looking into the radiator problem. Apparently oil from the transmission or engine was probably leaking into it, causing it to have that orange-ish brown color. He said neither is good but to hope it was the transmission because it would be more expensive to fix if it was the engine. He said to call back around noon today.

I called him at 12:45 and he was out on lunch. The guy said to call back around 1:15 and he should be back by then. I called back around 1:25 and spoke with the guy that was working on my car. He said he flushed the radiator and has been driving it around a little (I assume he drove it to lunch, heh). He said I should call back about now (2:30) and he'll know more about what the problem is.

Ok, I just got off the phone with the mechanic. They're really not sure what the heck was wrong with the radiator. Their head mechanic has worked at the Toyota place for fifteen years and hasn't seen anything like this before. What they think it is likely to have been is that someone added something to the radiator and it had a bad chemical reaction to the antifreeze or something else. When they turned it on and let it sit with the radiator cap off, it boiled up a foam mushroom bubble like four inches high. The only other thing they can think it might have been is that the transmission cooling line cracked and leaked into the radiator; however, he's seen those before and it didn't look like this (foaming, etc).

Since I'm not picking it up today they're going to let it run some more this afternoon, run it around town and on the highway, and see how it's doing by tomorrow. I told him that if nothing else goes wrong I would go ahead and schedule to pick it up tomorrow afternoon around 1 or 2. That should leave enough time for me to still play racquetball with my sister tomorrow afternoon or evening. Hopefully afternoon, as I'm hoping to have other evening plans. *crosses fingers* Here's to hoping nothing else goes wrong, as that would also mean it's likely to ruin my trip this weekend.

Blockbuster vs Netflix

I find it amusing, and slightly disappointing, that Blockbuster Online can send out a movie on Monday and expect to get it here around Thursday, while Netflix can send a movie Tuesday and expect to get it here Wednesday. Oh, and that "in store rental" gimmick they do? The closest Blockbuster is Union City (30 minutes away) and Jackson (60 minutes away). The only reason I'm using Blockbuster at all is because they charged me almost five bucks to rent Spiderman while I was down in Louisiana, and gave me a month to try their online service. I'll be cancelling it in the next week or so.
