Lessons in selling your car

Definitely screwed myself over on that one.

I sold my last car at the end of March of 2010. I didn't get around to canceling the insurance until the end of September 2010. Geico has said they could refund the period in which I didn't have the car if I could provide a bill of sale or something. I thought great, because that's exactly what I have. Just today I finally got around to trying to scan/fax/whatever the documents to them. Upon writing the cover letter for fax I realized I didn't have the official bill of sale; only a handwritten note for release of liability / sale. The official bill of sale I had been keeping with that handwritten note was the original bill of sale for when I purchased the vehicle a year before. I'm going to send just the handwritten note and hope that is sufficient, but if not then I'll just have to write off the entire experience and do it right next time.

Lessons for selling your vehicle:

  • Keep a copy of the bill of sale.
  • Take the tag(s) off the vehicle. It's their problem to get new tags on a vehicle without tags (I've had to do it too).
  • Cancel the insurance ASAP, not six months later.

Very busy productive day

We've gone on a cleaning spree this evening. It started with just loading the dish washer, putting away dishes from the counter drainer, and washing the counter drainer. It ended with vacuuming the stairs, making tuna fish sandwiches, and smoothies.

  • Clean & bleach the counters.
  • Clean the stove.
  • Clean the dishes on the counters.
  • Load the dish washer & start it.
  • Clean the counter dish draining rack.
  • Clean the toaster and can opener.
  • Vacuum and wash the kitchen floor.
  • Wash, dry, & fold clothes.
  • Recommend Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffery to Warda.
  • Lend Ben an old Wacom tablet (finger touch required, no stylus).
  • Give Warda a hanging folder box for paper organizing.
  • Collapse and organize empty boxes in the garage.
  • Vacuum the living room, entrance stairs, and entrance floor.

This doesn't include the things I've gotten done earlier today, and the errands we ran.

  • Fax copy of release of liability/bill of sale (ish) to Geico.
  • Call AAA to renew motorcycle coverage.
  • Pay electric bill.
  • Call Samsung to get the Chromebook sent in to be fixed.
  • Write letter to debt collector to request verification of debt collection.
  • Fill out insurance form for Geico to opt-out of certain coverage (lowering premium).
  • Drop off the Chromebook package to UPS.
  • Drop by the USPS to get stamps and mail back my old motorcycle license plate from Nevada.
  • Go shopping at Target for a few food items, and a paper shredder (finally).
  • Return paper shredder for a larger version that can fit a whole sheet without being folded.

Ben still hasn't finished his episode of Nigella Lawson that he started before we went on errands.
