Blue Hair Dye Choices
I'm considering dying my hair blue-ish. The only question is what shade of the color. Wal-Mart doesn't have any off-colors (short of purple) so I've had to go online to find something.

Personally I'm leaning towards the Midnight Blue or Blue Mayhem, as those are darker or closer to blue (respectively) than the rest.

PS: I intend to 'dye' my hair without actually bleaching it first. I want the 'highlights' look they advise will happen if you dye dark hair.

Poll #725466 Shades of Blue

Which shade of blue would you recommend?

Do you have an alternate source for blue hair dyes?

Would you like me to post nudes after... nah, I'm just kidding.

le sigh. tease.

I have used feria's starry night. It is great on your hair and has a great midnight blue. It was black for work but when i stepped outside it was OMG BLUE! I actually had a woman at a grocery store look at me funny then ask me if i knew my hair was blue

I might give that a try but I'm not sure. I was trying to stay away from 'pure' black because I tried that once. I dyed my hair jet black (or whatever dark black) and it really offset my somewhat pale skin. I don't have as-pale skin right now but since school just finished I may not be getting any darker now.

It would definitely be advantageous to keep a semi-natural color, at least partly, should I try for a job that's a stickler for natural hair colors only.

Well i do work in an office. They either didn't notice or didn't care. It did show pretty black at work. outside and under certain lights is when it looks way blue.i am also relatively light skinned normally. my only saving grace sometimes is my freckles.

Manic Panic is kind of crap.

I like Special Effects brand dyes (if you can find a Hot Topic, they'll probably carry it), they show up a little bit even on my dark and never been or will be bleached hair.

Thanks for the tips! I was hoping someone would be able to offer a review on the brands (or at least the store) I listed in the poll.

We have a mall here in Dyersburg but it doesn't have a Hot Topic in it (kind of dull, eh?). If I'm ever in Jackson or Memphis (the next two closest and larger malls) I'll give hot topic a walk-through. I doubt that will be for some time, though, as going to Jackson, and especially Memphis, is dependant on others for the ride.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll get one of the Special Effects brand colors then.

How permanent do you want it to be? If you want it to last longer, bleach your hair first, even though it's light already, and leave the dye in longer.

For my hair, the only way it shows up is if I leave it in for an hour. If you have really fine hair, I don't suggest that, though, at least not for the first time.

Am I telling you things you already know? If not, tell me what your hair is like and what you want out of this, and I can probably help a bit.

In the two or three times I dyed it before the color lasted until it was cut out. It takes about a month or two for my hair to grow completely out again (for the most part, I think). I would like it to last about that long if I can, but I want at least two weeks of decent color out of it.

What I'm looking for is more like a 'highlights' effect. How some people put blonde highlights in their hair is how I want the blue color to look. I wouldn't mind if all of my hair was dyed blue, but it's the varying shades of colors that I really want.

My hair is ... well, I'm tempted to say somewhere between 'medium' and 'fine', but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember one of the people that cut my hair once say it was 'fine'. I know I have trouble keeping it in a style without very strong hair glue/gel. It also poofs all over the place after I wash it.

Lastly, the color of my hair isn't extremely dark, nor is it light. It's somewhere inbetween, erring on the side of dark. The first or second time I dyed my hair (like three years ago?) it turned orangish red when the goal was supposed to be closer to red.

I've only dyed my hair like three or four times. Any advice you can give would be welcome. My sister dyes her hair dark red on a regular basis so I've asked her about what she knows, but neither she or I have ever done off-natural colors or the kind of thing I want now.

From what you're telling me, you've been doing it fine. Highlights are beyond me, though, sorry.

The other bit of advice I have is with special Effects brand, read the directions You have to shampoo it out, which is different from a lot of dyes.
