I once heard a song say, "They say nothing lasts forever, so what makes love the exception?"
... My instant response was "it's not." >_>

Yeah, love doesn't last forever.

Don't get me wrong. There are those that do, but those are usually the exception and not the rule. Chances are it's not going to happen so always expecting every relationship to last a lifetime (which may also factor into making it not last) puts unnecessary strain on enjoying what you have while you have it.

For a 20 year old you sure have had your share of pain - or so it seems. I'd offer a shoulder but i know how you feel about these long distance disembodied offerings of condolence: they don't quite cut the mustard.

Pain? Maybe. I just know that it's pretty much a fairy tale to think love is forever. Sure, there are loves that are "forever", but chances are it's not going to happen, so to expect every tryst and encountered to last forever puts unnecessary strain on enjoying what you have while you have it.

Plus, this "love is forever" is, for the most part, just pandering to social norms / religious expectations and/or selfish desires.

Am I jaded? Quite possibly. I like to think I'm just being realistic, though.

I think that's a reasonable position to take. I've met a few couples whose love will last 'forever' but most people are only in it for the security.

"…to expect every tryst and encountered (sic) to last forever puts unnecessary strain on enjoying what you have while you have it."
For a 20 year old you sure are wise, but having had similar views when I was your age how I hate that hackneyed phrase I guess I'm not all that surprised since I have a notion as to how they arise.

You''re right; the "everlasting Love" thing is mostly emotional poppycock. That which truly lasts forever need not be dwelt upon.

If you were jaded I doubt you'd be pursuing much in the relationship department.
