The Autobiography of Russell
Life from a different perspective
Sudoku; Public Bus Pass; Contacts; Eye Exam; Hot Guy; Sleep; Crickets; Pest Control
After screwing up not just one but two Sudoku puzzles I think it's time to take a break.

I ordered a 30 day public transit bus pass so I'll have some way to get to work just in case my car goes out again. I have to leave the house by 7:15 to get to work by 8, or 7:45 to get to work by 8:30, but at least it's an alternative now. I'm sort of tempted to try it out one morning at 6:45 just to see what it's like.

Last Friday I got an eye and contact exam. I ended up trying on three different pairs of contacts before one was reasonably acceptable. They seemed ok at the time so we scheduled a followup appointment for this Friday to see how they were doing. They've been moving around and making things a little blurry from time to time. They also seemed out of focus or something. I decided I had enough today barely being able to see half the time and only 3/4 of the way through the work day. I left early and did a walk-in at the eye doctor. We then proceeded to go through three or four more sets of contacts before finding one that were pretty well, or at least didn't feel really odd and didn't shift around too much. I'm wearing them now and only have minor issues with them. They're ordering another set of contacts and will call me when they arrive. If those don't work then we'll probably be sticking with these. These are a lot softer than the others I tried, but they seem reasonable so far.

As far as my eyes go there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the strength has gone back down (from -4.5 and -4 to -3.5 and -3). The bad news is my astigmatism has gone from -1.75 to -2 or so. Roughly.

I normally don't say things like this, but there was one guy at the eye place who is hot. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on him. Mmm... In the mean time I'll settle for his number. :-P (Yeah, right. I'm still working on appearing friendly and approachable. I haven't gotten to actually approaching guys I don't know are gay).

I must be off to bed now. I have managed to figure out I can block out the crickets by just pulling the cover over my head or at least ear. It either doesn't stay that way or hasn't helped me get a full night of sleep, but tonight will be the first chance to try at the beginning of the night instead of half way through (yesterday I went to bed around 7pm in an attempt to get some decent sleep before the crickets are out.

Speaking of crickets, I called for some pest control today. They were going to come out tomorrow but they couldn't quite fit it in my schedule with work. The first appointment is now scheduled for Friday from around 4pm to 6pm. In the mean time I have to call my landlord and get them to call or fax confirmation that it is ok for the pest control service

I haven't heard anything new from him in a while. I sent a reply last Friday and haven't heard back yet. I'm leaving any lack of communication as him just being too busy in Germany, what with returning in a month and a half or so.

I don't know if he would be willing to deal with the long distance between us once he does return; that's sort of what part of the last message was about. When he gets back he plans on continuing his college education near the Kansas City, KS area.

I use "night and day" contacts -- theyre really nice, you can wear for 30 days and they are not so thin and flimsy as most contacts. I was able to adapt really fast.

Oh and doesnt your apt. have its own pest people? Mine adamantly does NOT want us calling our own services, as they have a contract with...orkin i believe -- which is part of the services you pay for in rent.

I'll have to check into the night and day contacts. I may not be able to use them because of my prescription, but who knows. I'm not sure I would be able to wear them all the time, though. Back when I first got them years ago we weren't supposed to wear them for more than a day at a time yet I wore them constantly for weeks at a time. By the time my subscription was up my eyes were starting to get a little annoyed by them.

I moved to a house now. I need to post some pictures. It has a HOA but I don't recall anything about not being able to use my own. When I was signing the lease they said I could tell the rental agency if there was a bug problem (just dead ones at the time) in the first 30 days but after that I would have to pay for it myself.

I had to call them this morning and I got her voice mail. I'll probably get a call back if I can't.

before you tell your optometrist that "oh ill never be able to wear these all day/night, so I'll just wear them for longer than a month, but days only"

2 things
1 they will tell you not to wear them longer than a month, even if you take them out every night as per normal contacts
2. you will EAT THESE WORDS and your optometrist (if he is a smartass like MINE) will give you the patronizing "SEE I really AM a doctor who knows WTF I am doing" look when you admit that you have adapted.

Also 3rd thing that possibly does not apply to you:

For the love of god, if you are going to drink alcohol in any decent amount TAKE THEM OUT before you go to sleep. Dehydration will GLUE THEM to your EYEBALLS and it is a very weird feeling which takes LOTS of eyedrops to fix. Especially if you wake up in the middle of the night and are stumbling around blindly for the bathroom with your eyeballs glued shut.

Nah, I don't see anything wrong with it if it's within reason. If a visit can be made once a month or so then it's doable. It just depends on if the parties involves can keep interest and stay committed to making it work.
