"Prayers For Bobby" Movie Review
I finally finished watching Prayers For Bobby last night. I'm tempted to watch it again already.

It was very touching. In some ways I can understand how Bobby arrived to the logic he did. Being close to ones family does strange things to people. I was estranged from my family early in my life thanks to an incident with my sister and parents. I think that saved me from a lot of pain later when I realized I'm gay.

I really appreciated how it touched on actual scriptures frequently used to justify the hate and condemnation of homosexuals. It gives them in context with meaning to them beyond the one verse. I'm tempted to get a copy of this movie sent to my parents, but I think we're still in a mutual agreement not to talk about the subject, the little we do talk. Oh well.

Current Mood: thoughtful

Have you seen "Latter Days?" It's old... I think 2003. One of my favorites. :-)

The story behind "Prayers For Bobby", as you may know, happened here in Portland. I can't remember if that was brought out in the movie, not that it matters where it took place, but I often think about that poor kid when ever I cross that particular overpass. It is so sad that it took the death of her son for his mother to realize the poisonous nature of dogma.
