OkCupid's Match Map Toy

I discovered OkCupid's Match Map Toy. I lost the first result set so I ended up taking it again and getting different results, so I ended up taking it a third time to figure out the difference. The question I entered a different answer on was "14: Are you an adventurous eater? Do you like to try new foods and ethnic cuisines?".

This first set of results I answered "Yes, if it's not too strange.". As far as which set of answers I more closely idealize with, it would be this one.

States that match you best:

  1. Idaho
  2. Alaska
  3. Kansas
  4. Montana
  5. Arizona

States that match you worst:

  1. Wyoming
  2. Virginia
  3. Utah
  4. South Carolina
  5. West Virginia

This second set of answers answered the food question with "Yes, all the time.". While it could be true sometimes, and I could, in theory, try any food, there are limits to what I would volunteer to try.

States that match you best:

  1. Idaho
  2. Colorado
  3. South Dakota
  4. California
  5. Kansas

States that match you worst:

  1. West Virginia
  2. Wyoming
  3. Vermont
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Tennessee

You should be scared of any methodology that leads to your best match consistently being Idaho. I think mine was consistently Alaska. Somehow I'm thinking the methodology is a bit flawed.

One explanation, I think, is that the people who use the service vary widely from those who actually populate the states. The majority of those who use OkCupid in Alaska or Idaho may have similar answers, but not necessarily the majority of the population. Another thing is that these questions only match exact answers, whereas their Match % is rated on what would be acceptable answers from other people. That could produce quite a different selection too.

There is also a chance it hasn't been updated in a long time, too. At the end of the quiz it doesn't recognize me as already being logged in to save the results.
