Cooking Adventures: Pot Roast in a Crockpot
Yesterday I made Pot Roast with Vegetables. Or something not quite vaguely like it.

I wanted something to cook in a crockpot and that was the first recipe that didn't ask for a bottle of wine as the primary liquid in the pot. On the other hand it didn't suggest using a crockpot, nor did it say anything about potatoes, and by golly I wanted potatoes. I did cook the outside of the meat like the recipe suggested before placing it in the crockpot on top of some potatoes. I cut up most of the vegetables about 1/2 or 1/3 as small as was recommended by the recipe. I then put the rest of the vegetables around the meat, the rosemary and thyme sprigs on top, added the crushed tomatoes, then filled up the pot the rest of the way with water. It cooked on high for about 4 hours before my brother got home. He tested the potatoes and carrots which were a long way from done, so we put it on low and left it cooking overnight. I tested it this morning and everything appears to be done now.

As a replacement dinner last night I made "Cheesy Jambalaya" Hamburger Helper. The pasta didn't get done on time so my brother upped the temperature and cooked it a little longer before it was finally done. That seemed to go over well.

A pot roast recipe that doesn't call for potatoes is heretical.

I know! :-P

This was Tyler Florence we're talking about, though, and in general any Food Network cook is likely to toss out the most recognizable ingredient or step of a recipe. heh

I think my brother has already had some now. For lunch I had leftovers from the last two dinners so I haven't eaten any quite yet. I tend to let other people taste my cooking before I do. Hmm... *shrug*
